there really is a lot more to marriage than money and love. at least in america, marriage is a legal institution. there are legal implications that people don't consider. it also varies between states. that person becomes your "next of kin" with the same rights as immediate family members. it probably really depends on how much money you have, ie what quality of lawyer you can afford. for example, at least in colorado as of a few years ago, if your wife gets pregnant by another man, you have parental rights and responsibilities to that child (presumed father). i'm not sure how that would really play out with a couple together, but i can tell you i saw how it effected people first hand in adoption situations.

Marriage seems to only be beneficial for financial purposes nowadays. It seems to me that more people are thinking of marriage as more of a business transaction than one where you are with someone you love.

longevity is higher among married men (i don't know stats on women, i think we do okay either way), poverty is higher among single parents, there are reasons why we pay people to be married (tax credits and shared benefits). being married may be as good for one as not smoking.

I have read many of Shoghi Effendi's works. The astounding insight, reaching far into the future are numerous. He never claimed any special ability to divine future events. Just really insightful extrapulation from what he knew at the time.

It's funny. The selected text would fit right into our times, but all the other things predicted are not yet there, and some of them appear almost frightening -

yet, I think it is great that some utopian ideas have become a reality.

I have never done speed dating, so I have no idea if this is true or not. When you organize your event, let me know, so I can hide in a closet and take notes. =D

40,000 definitely sounds doable. if a kid starts watching tv at age 2, he's got around 1000 days to be exposed to ads on tv alone before the first grade. i'm really hoping neuroscience will shed some light on what all that exposure does to one's brain.

Great point, I read somewhere a number of years ago that on average, a child will see 40,000 ads--all before his or her first day of school.

Bro, I've known for a long time that you're brilliant, but I didn't expect that. I dig it. I agree we've got to think about paradox if we're to begin to grasp such mysteries. Really like the concept of the body as a vessel that both docks us and lets us explore new worlds. By the way, I'm an English major, but I might hire you if I ever write a book.

I love it when I pop in to visit and find an unexpected guest. The Resurrection? Next to pretty much any other topic? Gutsy. Who says science and religion can't coexist together on the same blog? It would be interesting for you to expand on how having the experience of being alive relates to the newness of Heaven, Earth, and Jerusalem. Does it change their reality or how we percieve them? And how is it that Christianity in particular promotes that experience? Also, you talk about the body versus the mind but amazingly make no mention of the soul. It would be nice to see where you locate it in relation to the other two.

Maybe they asked those questions in church...

Nasreen
